The Beginner's Guide to Essential Oils

New to oils and don’t know where to start? Here are some of our favorite oils and their top uses!

Can essential oils change your life? Well, they sure have changed ours! With so many options, benefits, and a wide array of uses, we understand that it can be a bit overwhelming deciding which essential oils to begin with, as well as learning how to best incorporate them into your everyday life.

The best guidance we can offer is that the essential oils you choose should depend on your personal reason for using them. What are you looking to gain from essential oil? Relaxation, a certain health benefit, or an overall improvement in your everyday life?

For instance, lavender essential oil can be used to alleviate anxiety, as well as it can be added to your favorite lotion or moisturizer for a more youthful complexion. Lemon essential oil is great for cleaning and deodorizing, as well as providing an uplifting mood when diffused.

Overall, the thing to keep in mind is that each oil can do multiple things to not only benefit your health, but also to benefit your emotional well-being, your appearance, and they can also provide a healthier environment as an all-natural alternative to chemical cleaners.

Along the way we've discovered that it's best to be proactive in doing research and talking with qualified aromatherapists or other individuals with training in using essential oils. (Like us, The Two Blondes, We'd love to help you navigate these new waters!)

Most in the essential oil industry will agree, Lavender, Peppermint, and Lemon are the go-to starter essential oils. They're perfect to start using for common, every-day purposes. Here are some of their top uses....

Lavender Essential Oil promotes relaxation when used as aromatherapy and it’s calming scent helps to treat anxiety, depression, and insomnia. It’s an anti-inflammatory and has also been found to be beneficial in treating wounds, fungal infections, allergies, eczema, nausea, and menstrual cramps.

Peppermint Essential Oil is a refreshingly cool, minty scent with a familiar sharpness, offering an energizing aroma that promotes mental clarity and focus. It also alleviates headaches, migraines, and muscle cramps. It can also be taken orally to treat a variety of conditions, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), nausea, and other digestive issues, as well as the common cold.

Lemon essential oil frequently makes an appearance in cleaning products, and with good reason! Its bright, comforting scent makes everything feel fresher and cleaner! Not only can it assist in cleaning around the house as it kills harmful viruses and bacteria, but it’s known to help fight exhaustion, depression, acne, and it also reduces inflammation. Lemon essential oil is highly concentrated and contains a number of strong antioxidants that, when taken internally, can improve your digestion. (We suggest a few drops in 8 oz. of water each day).

Each oil above has even more benefits than we've listed, but as we mentioned before, it’s often best to do some research for your personal needs or even better, send us your questions! We would be glad to assist you in selecting the best essential oils for you to begin with, based on your needs and desired outcome! Beginning your journey with essential oils will be one of the best decisions you’ve ever made, we guarantee that they will improve your life in at least one major way, if not in many ways. We look forward to helping you begin!
